A Lolita Jumperskirt, A Skirt Or A One Piece, Oh My!

So much to choose from!

When your favorite lolita designers release a new print, it is always difficult to choose which clothing piece you want to buy. The most common designs for lolita printed items involve three common types: jumperskirts, skirts, and one-piece dresses. While your favorite design may differ from print to print, there is one type that finds a home in your wardrobe. Out of the three, I have one clear favorite.

Jumperskirts

In my opinion, jumperskirts always win! I adore lthe style of lolita jumperskirts for many reasons.

1. Ease of fit

Many times jumperskirts have a generous amount of shirring. This means the dress can accommodate a multitude of sizes. Additionally, many jumperskirts have corset lacing that can also allow for easy adjustments to fit many sizes. Not only do you save money from the flexibility, but you can also rest assured with the knowledge that you look your absolute best!

2. Greater coordinate combinations

A jumperskirt allows for multiple options for blouse and shirt selections, based on the colors represented in the print or dress details.
The options combined with a JSK with a long sleeve, a short sleeve shirt and the base of a cutsew or a blouse add a wide array of style options. Some of my other favorites add-ons to a jumperskirt include boleros or a corset. These items allow for more choices than just a one-piece dress alone!

3. Protect the dress

The fact that a jumperskirt requires layers underneath to represent the lolita aesthetic is a bonus! The shirt allows there to be an extra layer of fabric to protect the dress from normal wear and tear. Not only does this help to maintain the design, but protects the item's resale value, if so desired.

Skirts

While jumperskirts are my number one favorite pieces, the designs of most lolita skirts are truly precious unto themselves. They are my second choice! A lolita skirt is a lovely, and less expensive, addition to any lolita wardrobe!

1. Collect your favorites

A skirt is a great way to collect your favorite prints for less than an investment than a dress. This fact also allows you to build your lolita wardrobe faster than with dresses alone.

2. Greater coordinate combinations

Just like a jumperskirt, a skirt allows for multiple style options when paired with a shirt. A cutsew, blouse or bolero can be added to draw out additional colors represented in the print. Additionally, the choice of short or long sleeves is still an option with a skirt. While I do not experience as much flexibility when it comes to size accommodations, I am able to customize skirts quite inexpensively!

One-piece dresses

The one-piece dress finds it's home in last place for this fashion comparison. Do not get me wrong, I absolutely love the design of most one-piece dresses! There are however significant benefits it lacks when compared with a jumperskirt or a skirt. A one-piece dress does allow for additional benefits that a lolita jumperskirt or skirt cannot provide.

1. An overall print

Unlike a jumperskirt or a skirt, a one-piece dress gives you the ability to show off the beautifully designed print on the lolita piece! The more surface area means more of the details you love can be seen and appreciated.

2. A one-piece stands alone

This one clothing article is one that makes a bold statement. A one-piece is also a fantastic clothing piece for the days that you feel less inspired to create a coordinate. The addition of socks or tights, shoes, bag and matching hair accessories transform into a completed ensemble in no time!

3. Weather versatility

A one-piece dress is a great option as a complete dress for warm weather and sun protection if the material is made of an airy fabric, such as chiffon. Additionally, a one-piece dress can also be a warm dress for winter, if constructed of a wool or velvet. The long sleeves can help tp keep you warm.

And there you have it! There are my reasons and placement for these key Lolita pieces. What about you? Do you prefer a Lolita jumperskirt, one-piece or skirt for your wardrobe? Let me know below!
