I recently reached out to Dominique aka Pikkochan regarding a dramatic look for my latest doll addition, Lilith. To transform a blank Obitsu girl into a drop dead gorgeous Gothic beauty would be no easy task! The need for a third eye, tattoo and, piercings did not make my request any easier. Thankfully, Pikkochan was willing to give this challenge a shot. I am so happy with the results! A Doll Owner's RequestUnlike my first doll, I had a specific character in mind when I purchased this 45 cm Obitsu. About a year prior, I began to craft a dark, Gothic, nightmare worthy creature from the depths of my devious mind. Lilith was the lovely result! Since I had selected everything, from the style of her hair to the specific look of her third eye, it was very important for the artist to replicate my envisioned creation. Desired Services:✓ Face-Up + Fantasy Third Eye ✓ Manicure ✓ Septum Piercing ✓ Snake Bite Piercing ✓ Wrist Tattoo As you can see, this face-up commission was not going to be an easy task. Everything below is what I sent in relation to my face-up request, which included multiple reference photos and comments.
"For this doll I would love a true Gothic look. This would include purple/black smokey eyelids, black lipstick, and full black eyelashes. A mischievous or secretive expression would be most excellent!" Third Eye"I would love the third eye to be centered and looking straight ahead. The pupil can be slightly looking upwards, but it is really should be what you think looks best. Since this third eye will done with the face-up, I would love to have lashes and a eye lid so it looks like a more realistic eye. A cat's or snake's eye style would be amazing, and I would love for the eye to be lavender or purple." "I would like to have the manicure for the doll resemble the manicure displayed. I just love the gradient style! If it is not doable, plain black will be fine as well. For piercings, she will have a septum piercing and the snake bite piercing. The tattoo would be on the inner part of the doll's left wrist." An Artist's MagicThe SketchTo start, Dominique sketched out a base of what she would like Lilith to look like. As you saw, I had included several reference images to assist her. With a slight modification to Lilith's third eye, I approved Pikkochan's sketch. This gave her an enthusiastic green light to continue to the next phase. MakeupWith the initial sketch darkened, the BJD face-up artist added eyeshadow, lipstick, and coloring to the third eye. Additionally, the artist also added some light shading. It is incredible how realistic Lilith looks with these small additions! This is especially true when compared to the original head base. The outline of Lilith's wrist tattoo looked incredible as well! This was a bonus since the stock image I provided was rather small. I absolutely love that Lilith has a grief seed tattoo. Lilith does not particularly like Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but I believe she would appreciate the origin of the grief seed and its twisted implications. That, and the symbol and the sign design look pretty incredible! BlushThe blush really brings Lilith's features to life. One of the reasons I love Obitsu dolls is that the soft vinyl they are constructed of resembles resin. The natural glow becomes apparent with shading! The Finishing TouchesI cannot get over the beautiful gradient job of the manicure! Dominique was kind enough to body blush Lilith's hands as well. The body blushing enhanced the intricate manicure and made Lilith resemble a true resin doll in the process. It also brought out the intricate details of the doll's hands. The piercings are simply stunning! Each piercing had been added with precise precision, and they are sturdy as well. I am especially fond of Lilith's snake bites. I love that this doll is truly unique! It is incredible to see how far Lilith has come from the start of this project! Each subtle detail that Pikkochan has made makes a huge impact on Lilith as a character. While the face-up process is usually difficult, you know because you and the doll are separated, this was a wonderful experience! ArrivalWhen my box arrived with my face-up and other doll make-up commission requests, I was pleased to find that each doll piece that was sent to be worked on arrived safely! Each piece had been placed in bubble wrap. Lilith's head was wrapped in a soft woven cotton and a face-up protector. The face-up protector had been held into place with washi tape to protect piercings and makeup. The wrapped head was carefully sent in an adorable, "Just for you" canvas bag so that I could not miss it! In addition to my sent pieces and the canvas bag, I received a cute handwritten note with a personalized message, a business card, and a mini poster! The poster is now hanging in Lilith's "room" because it is such a great fit. I never expected so many unexpected and pleasant goodies. Owner PhotoOverall Rating:Quality10 / 10 Excellent! I am completely captivated by this commission. Each piece that I had sent to be customized was done so to my specifications and exceeded my expectations! Every detail, from her makeup to her fingernails, have been executed and with the artist's unique style. I have gotten many compliments on my doll, and I am pleased that Pikkochan was able to bring my character to life. Shipping10 / 10 Shipping was extremely reasonable and unbelievably fast! My items were shipped with priority shipping status. Each commissioned piece was wrapped and protected for the return journey. Communication10 / 10 Pikkochan at ResinJunky had phenomenal communication! The artist was in frequent contact throughout the commission. I received a ton of progress photos, and the artist would reach out if she had any questions about my specification. This great communication made me feel that I was a huge piece of the face-up and modification process. Not only did I get updated pictures as the face-up commission progressed, but the artist made a video of the entire commission process as well! And there you have it, a perfect score! I am seriously considering getting a face-up for my first doll from this artist as well. I hope that a Sweet Lolita will be a much easier task than a Gothic beauty! Do you have bjds or similar dolls? Did your doll(s) come with a face-up? Do you do face-up or bjd modifications yourself? What are your favorite face-up artists? I would love to read your answers! Stay Frilly,
