My first Metamorphose piece is here! Metamorphose temps de fille has released some "plus" and "plus plus" sized options recently. With so many gorgeous designs, I couldn't help but get a few of them! I pre-ordered the 3 Tier Frill Dress and Headband Headdress through Kuroshiro Kawaii.

The pre-order for my items was placed on 2/5/2021 on Kuroshiro Kawaii's website. Kuroshiro's website was extremely easy to use. Since the payment plan option of Affirm was available, I used that method. Metamorphose expected the release to happen in late June or early July, so the payment plan was a great option for me! My items arrived in a comfortable plastic bubble mailer.

Headdress Style Headband

The headdress headband looks just like the picture only the red is brighter, at least for my monitor settings. The main cotton fabric is heavier than I expected, but it is very soft. Everything is well attached and is perfectly stitched. Since the headdress is on a headband, I am not worried it will slide off. Not only is it wide, but it also is flexible. This means I can wear it with thicker wigs.

The satin ribbons are sturdy but soft. Each ribbon features a pretty heart charm at the base, which is a nice touch. I'm extremely impressed with how well constructed this headpiece is!

This hair accessory is absolutely gorgeous! The quality of the materials used is fantastic! Not only is everything evenly stitched, but I'm also not worried about anything coming off. The headband is stretchy and wide. I won't have to worry about it sliding off or worried that my wig is too thick for it.

3 Tier Frill JSK (Solid, Plus Size)

This dress is gorgeous! I am completely captivated by the striking contrast of the rich red cotton and bright white lace details. This color combination, frills, and rose lace remind me of Baby's Elizabeth OP. This iconic Sweet Lolita design from 2004, and featured in Kamikaze Girls, is one of my favorites!

Unlike the piece by Baby, this dress was available in a plus size!

Bust

94cm (37.0in) ~ approx. max 140cm (55.1in)

Length

82cm (32.2in) / BNP-103cm (40.5in)

Waist

78cm(30.7in) ~ approx. max 125cm (49.2in)
So if you are looking for a well-known Japanese name brand that offers plus and tall lolita-friendly pieces, Metamorphose may be a great option for you! I expect to have four pieces by this brand at end of this year alone. I truly love that these designers are embracing size inclusivity for their items.

For this release, the plus-size piece is a scaled version of their standard sizes. While some designs in the past have only added to the shirring, these new releases have scaled the ribbon and other details as well. Overall, the dress is perfectly balanced and almost indistinguishable from the standard size.

The cotton fabric is thicker than I anticipated for a release in June, but it will be a great dress for fall and winter weather. The dress is fully lined with a beautiful and rich red satin. Both the chemical and torchon lace is sturdy yet soft. Unlike some of my Bodyline dresses, the threaded ribbon on this piece has been perfectly laid, is flat, and doesn't move freely inside the lace.

I was surprised to discover the two ribbons at the top of the bodice, as well as the large mid-section bow, are removable! It took me only seconds to remove them and reattach the smaller satin bows to the bodice of the dress. It will be fun to have this extra element to create unique lolita coordinates!

I love how the skirt tiers open freely! This aspect gives the piece a true Old School Lolita and princess vibe. Each aspect, from the ruffle to the gathered horizontal fabric in the skirt, is perfectly stitched.

At the back, you'll find partial shirring and waist ties. These waist ties are extra long, which was a surprise. The buttons allow you to remove the waist ties, which is something I love to see.
Picture
For some reason, you can see the buttons at the base of the strap, but there is no adjustable strap length. Was this an oversight, or was Meta leaving extra material if you wanted to make adjustable straps? I'm not sure but on the plus side this is an excellent bonus for any tall lolitas out there!

Not only is this dress beautiful, but it is also very flattering. I was concerned at first that the material gathers at the sides when it is worn. Recently, Metamorphose has conducted a recall for a release to correct the measurements. It is on the stock images too, and is reduced if you remove the waist ties!

The overall design, quality of the product, and high skill used to make this dress are beyond my expectations! If I had any reservations about participating in future Metamorphose releases, this dress has encouraged me to do so! I love how beautiful this piece is when worn or even on display!

Kuroshiro Kawaii

10 / 10

Kuroshiro Kawaii's website was very easy to use and navigate. I found the items and was able to purchase them within minutes, even with the Affirm payment plan option added. I did not connect with Kuroshiro about this order, but I have since then. They have been very prompt and helpful! My items shipped quickly when they arrived from Japan and I qualified for free shipping!

Product Quality

10 / 10

The construction and quality of these pieces are excellent! I completely understand where Meta's fantastic reputation comes from. Each stitch is even, the overall design is beautiful and flattering, the cotton is of a great weight and quality, and the lace is sturdy yet soft. I look forward to other pieces that Metamorphose will release, especially in concerns to the "plus" and "plus plus" size options!

Product Price

9 / 10

On Kuroshiro's website, the dress was $350 while the headdress headband was $56. Metamorphose had the dress at around $306 and the headdress was $49. At first, I was a bit shy about buying the release because of the higher price tag but how could I pass up such a beautiful set that was in my size? I love that Kuroshiro guaranteed I would have my items shipped from Japan, I wouldn't have to worry about international shipping, and I'm supporting a US lolita shop as well.

While I can feel confident the dress was well worth the price tag, I don't feel that is the case with the headband. It does match and is well made, but I may forgo buying the matching hair accessory in the future. That being said, both items were well made and designed. I will wear them often!

Do you have any items by Metamorphose? Have you seen any designs you'd like to own?
I'd love to read your comments below!
