Review: Fancy! Mahou Shoujo Patisserie JSK and Head Bow Set by Sleepyland

What do you get when you combine a talented artist, a size-inclusive indie lolita brand, and a love for magical girl series? Why, one amazing release of course!

​In this review, I'll share my impressions of Fancy! Mahou Shoujo Patisserie JSK and Head bow set by the US-based brand, Sleepyland. Are your wands handy? Great, let's get started!

When Sleepyland released their teaser image, I was hooked. I have secured some quick releases, and this was one of them! The set featured a beautiful dress covered in magical girl-inspired bakery goods, a cotton cutsew with a darling fake pipe frosted collar, and sheer sleeves, and a maid cafe headband tie in the pink gingham and teal and white stripes.

​Fancy! Mahou Shoujo Patisserie JSK

The dress has two size option. I purchased Size 2, which accommodates from 95 cm to a 140 cm bust! If you are busty like me, this dress will have a high-waisted look.

This dress has many impressive elements, but I'll start with the detachable bow. This sheer chest bow is a lovely detail that adds to the magical girl aesthetic. At the base of the bow, there are two sparkly star beads. The chest bow attaches to the dress with a simple safety pin.

Without the chest bow, the bodice showcases more of the unique and beautiful print, polka dots, and three heart gem buttons! There are two laces used here, which I absolutely love.

I didn't realize this until I opened the dress, but the material has glitter! It looks absolutely magical when worn, which can come in handy as a distraction for your enemies in a pinch.

At the top of the bodice, you can see the fake piped frosting along the top. The gather material is decorated with little crystal beads, which gives one the impression they are like sprinkles!

At the bottom of the bodice, there is a detachable gingham belt and matching waist ties. I was disappointed that the waist ties were too short*, but I hope to find similar fabric and ask my wife to make longer ones. The option of the gingham belt gives me more coordinate freedom and is more flattering, but the dress is still absolutely stunning without it!

*Note: Sleepyland makes longer waist ties for their new releases!

This print doesn't disappoint! There are cookies, candies, cakes, lollipops, ribbons, polka-dots, stars, lace, jellies, parfaits, crowns, spoons, frosting, gems, fruit, sprinkles, gingham, and more!

The artist and designer did a fantastic job balancing the complexity of the print with the overall dress design. There are so many fun aspects to the print that I can't pick a favorite!

Now it's time for the maid headband! The same material used for the dress was used for the matching headband, so it is just as glittery. The front bow is easily detachable. The item is light due to the fabric, and the headband is thin and flexible. If you are like me and get headaches from tight hair accessories or have a difficult time adding some headpieces to your wigs, you can rest easy! The added detail of the stripes and star lace are lovely details.

As expected, the headband is very comfortable and doesn't bother me! I'm delighted Sleepyland was kind enough to include the headband with the dress. I have no complaints!

Here's a quick coordinate! The dress is very light and comfortable. I look forward to wearing this dress in the spring, summer, or days I need an airy piece. With so many fun details, I cannot wait to make multiple looks with this piece! I plan to make my accessories, too.

Sleepyland's shop is very user-friendly! The pre-order process was simple. I added the pre-order deposit to my cart and checked out. Sleepyland sent reminders when the second payment option was available. The process was very transparent on the brand's social media, and when my items did ship, they arrived in about five business days! Everything was packaged very well.

Both the dress, headband, and socks are very well-made! The fabric is light and even has glitter! The shirring makes this size-inclusive and is very comfortable. My only regret is that the waist ties for this release are too short for plus-size wearers.

With multiple types of lace, a beautiful and detailed print, and fantastic assembly, this dress is a remarkable piece I'm proud to have in my wardrobe!

The maid headpiece is comfortable, light, flexible, and matches the dress perfectly!

At $275 USD for a full jumperskirt and a hair accessory, I think this set is 100% worth it! I'm still wow-ed by the quality of this set. The print is stunning, the dress is comfortable and well-made, and it even comes with a matching headband! I can honestly say this is now one of my favorite indie lolita fashion brands and I hope to add more of their unique pieces to my closet!
