Size Flexibility in Lolita Fashion: How to Add It to Your Closet

As a human, our bodies are constantly changing. Our bodies are more active some days than others, we make healthy food choices one day over the next, and medications or other factors can add to the flow of our bodies. While this truth is just a part of life, it can be a slight annoyance.

I am a lolita who has experienced a noticeable change with my own body over the years, particularly over the past year. Due to this fact, I have honed this required skill.
Here are my tips on having a flexible lolita fashion wardrobe!

Let's get started!

There are many releases that offer multiple styles of dresses! By using Angelic Pretty's recent release of Horror Candy Shop as an example, let's look at which styles allow for the greatest size flexibility.

Horror Candy Shop One-Piece by Angelic Pretty

At first glance, this one-piece dress looks as if it will be a great addition to your wardrobe. As someone who is looking for size flexibility however, this would not necessarily be a good choice.

Measurements:
Length: about 91cm
Bust: about 92cm
Waist: about 89cm
Shoulder width: about 35cm
Sleeve length: about 65cm
Cuff: About 20cm

The measurements seem to be very specific. That doesn't really allow for a lot of size flow. While a corset, belt or other accessory additions may be added to assist, it would be an additional purchase.

Let's investigate the style and construction of the backside of the one-piece dress.

The back of the one-piece does not allow for a range of sizes. The addition of gathered material, shirring, is a great way to expand the number of sizes that a item allows. This is not the case here.

While this dress design is absolutely charming, it would not be a great choice for multiple sizes.

The jumperskirt is very similar to the one-piece dress in style. You may be thinking that this recent series may be completely ill-fitted, but do not fret! Let's view the measurements and construction.

Measurements:
Length: about 91.5cm
Bust: about 88~112cm
Waist: about 74~100cm
( Back shirring offers some ease of fit )

The sizing on this style of dress appear to be much more flexible! Thanks, shirring for being so accommodating. The extra gathered fabric allows for the dress fit to be smaller or larger with ease.

From the backside of the dress you can easily see the gathered fabric. This allows for the wide size range. This particular dress design is the best purchase piece to add to your wardrobe.

When Ordering Custom Size Items...

When you are looking to add new items to your lolita closet, be sure to keep these aspects in mind to save yourself time, money and heartache. When I originally purchased my lolita wardrobe pieces I simply ordered the items I liked. Now, my original made to measurement pieces will need to move onto other homes. Of course, you can pay to have your items taken in. However, if you can save yourself the expense the first time that would be a great thing for your wallet and wardrobe.

I hope these tips were helpful! Also, I hope that your future lolita wardrobe is prepared for anything.

Stay Frilly,

Great post! Shirring is a world-saver as far as I'm concerned for fitting into brand pieces. I'm not a super huge fan of AP's Horror Candy Shop but if I had to wear it I would go for blue c:

Hello Maori,

I am glad that you enjoyed the blog post! Shirring has saved me so many times - I would be lost without it!

As for Horror Candy Shop the blue would be so lovely! I think I am falling in love with the red colorway. The fact that these cute pastel animals like to sleep in coffins just fills me with cute feelings ♡
