Before you even start the creation of your blog, ask yourself why you would like to create your Lolita blog. Do you want to document your fashion journey? Do you want to share your radical fashion with the world? Do you wish to have fame and glory, or even make a few extra advertising dollars to fund your love of Lolita?
The reason for your blog is very important to help you stay motivated and measure your success.I myself wish to document my Lolita fashion journey. My blog includes everything from coordinate shots to product reviews. If I happen to have others that are interested in my journey as well, that it is just an added bonus!
In order to maintain your blog, you will need to provide content that your readers will enjoy. There are some general ideas that you may use to add quality material to your overall blog. Some of these topics include:
✓ Coordinate Posts
✓ Product Reviews
✓ Your reaction to Lolita Releases
✓ Lolita For Beginners
✓ Public Reactions
✓ Order Hauls
✓ Hair and Make Up Tutorials
✓ Do-It-Yourself Crafts
✓ Lolita How-Tos
There are also numerous challenges and tags you can use as content for your blog, such as the Lolita 52 Challenge that I am currently a part of. Any unique content that you create is always welcomed among your reader, such as my 7 Deadly Sins Lolita Challenge. Fresh and new concepts are often promoted for you by other Lolitas and Lolita groups. As you most likely know, the more exposure to your Lolita blog the better!
Where do you want to house your blog? Would you like to host your blog on your own website, or use a blog platform that has already been create? There are numerous applications available to you such as:
✓ Blog Lovin
To name just a few. There are numerous free blog applications, so try a few to see which one is best for you!
This is a great way to see if you can maintain a blog without having to pay for your own website. While my blog now exists solely on my personal website, I did not start out that way! My Lolita blog started out as a free blog on Blogger.com under the name For the Love of Frills and it is still active! I am so glad I utilized Blogger before I payed for my website domain and the subscription in order to have additional features on my website.
I highly recommend to anyone just starting out as a blogger that you use a free hosting site, such as Blogger, in order to start your Lolita fashion blog. I personally prefer to use my own personal website to house my blog. This way, I have the complete freedom to edit the look of my blog with ease, track my user traffics and own the content I create 100% of the time. I use weebly.com for my website editor and it is extremely user friendly.
Create a schedule and stick to it! Your potential readers will appreciate a blog that updates on a scheduled and continued basis. Not only will it help them to know when to check back in with you, it will also show your readers that you intend to continue to blog. A schedule will also allow you to hold yourself accountable for your content. Can you create bonus blog posts? Of course you can! I create bonus blog posts when there is time sensitive content. Just be sure to post you weekly blog post at the predetermined day and time!
I cannot stress this suggestion enough. A quality camera will add so much value to your content. Whether it is a coordinate shot or a product review, a superior camera will allow your pictures to go from nice to stunning!
These images of Angelic Pretty's Melty Cream Doughnut easily show the differences between my iPhone 5C camera and my Nikon COOLPIX L840 Digital Camera. The Nikon camera allows for more details of the print to show and allows for a more balanced display of color. Not to mention my Nikon shots are huge and allow for me to shrink the original to whatever size I desire. Photos are extremely essential to the continued success of your fashion blog. Not only will you be able to provide your readers with your writing skills, you will also be able to present them with visual content that you create through your digital photographs.
Most high quality digital cameras can double as a video recorder for any Lolita channel you may create!
Most importantly, my best advice is to be yourself. Not only can your readers sense any falsities to your personality, but you will want to be yourself when you read back through your experiences. There is nothing better than the ability to see how far you have come from your humble beginnings!
I hope this blog post was informative to you soon to be Lolita bloggers! Be sure to reach out with any questions you have! Feel free to send me your blog once it is started so I can follow your journey.
