I absolutely love when face-up artists send you work-in-progress updates! Pikkochan has been kind enough to send me photo updates of my new girl, Lilith, as her face-up progresses. For those of you who are unfamiliar with ball-jointed-dolls, or dolls with a similar aesthetic, these dolls often arrive as a blank canvas. A face-up artist can give the doll an intended look or style. Even a simple face-up can make the doll more realistic and relatable. This particular character of mine is rather dramatic, so she would need a proper face and make up in order to match her dark and defined personality.
As Lilith's wigs, clothes, eyes, and other doll essentials arrive, I cannot help but wait helplessly for Lilith to be shipped and delivered to my doorstep. I completely agree that you cannot rush perfection, and I would not dream to do so. Still, I cannot help to wait for my lovely Lilith to return!
To start, Dominique sketched out a base of what she would like Lilith to look like. I included several reference images to assist her in this process. With a slight modification to Lilith's third eye, I approved pikkochan's sketch and gave her an enthusiastic green light to continue to the next phase.
With the initial sketch darkened, the BJD face-up artist added eye shadow, lipstick and coloring to the third eye. Additionally, the artist also added some light shading. It is incredible how realistic Lilith looks with these small additions! This is especially true when compared to the original head base. T
The outline of Lilith's wrist tattoo looks incredible as well! This is especially true since the stock image I provided was rather small. I absolutely love that Lilith has a grief seed tattoo. Lilith does not particularly like Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but I believe she would appreciate the origin of the grief seed and it's twisted implications. That, and the symbol and the sign looks pretty incredible!
The blush really brings Lilith's features to life. One of the reasons I love Obitsu dolls is that the soft vinyl they are constructed of resembles resin. The natural glow becomes apparent with shading!
Last but not least, Lilith will be getting a few piercing modifications! Once the snake bite and septum piercings have been added, Lilith should be on her way home. I cannot wait to see the end result!
So much to do, so little time. You can find my updates here! ♡
