From Comfy Casual to Sweet Lolita with My Friend April

Lolita fashion is even more fun with friends! I've wanted to dress my friend April up in lolita fashion for a long time, and during my birthday weekend, I got my wish. In this recent video, you can see April transform from her comfy casual outfit into a sugary coordinate a Lolita can't help but love!

When my Sugary Carnival set arrived, I couldn't get over how adorable it was! I was able to secure a spot with my tailor in January, but before then I thought this was a great time to dress my friend April in Sweet Lolita! The adorable ponies, candies, stars, and hearts had her name written all over them.

April is no stranger to kawaii. As a previous teacher in Japan and a huge fan of cuteness in general, April is a wonderful person to share adorable things with! From jewelry concepts to a shared appreciation of Sweet Lolita prints, I could not wait to see how this release would look!

My dress form displayed the blouse April would be wearing and the Sugar Carnival set. I thought this was a great way to let April see the details of the dress and blouse in particular. Once April was dressed in the blouse, JSK, matching socks, and petticoat, we moved on to hair and makeup.

April had brought a wig cap, but we found her natural hair looked super cute with the coordinate. Completely prepared, April had a curling iron, her makeup kit, and blue glasses! The ColourPop Sailor Moon Palette April used was perfect for the soft pinks and yellows in the print. Using the curling iron, April carefully but quickly curled her hair. Seeing her natural hair in this release made me nostalgic for the older editions of the Gothic & Lolita Bible, specifically the streetsnaps section.

Next, we tried hair accessories! We discovered the headbows weren't very comfortable for her, so we moved on to headdresses. While these looked super cute, we both loved how the bow hair clips looked with April's natural hair. Not only is this a classic look for Sweet Lolita, but April said she used to wear hair clips often in high school and college so it was something she was comfortable with. Talk about a win-win! As for bags, April was immediately drawn to the iconic heart bag by Baby.

Jewelry is my favorite part of a lolita coordinate! From the polka-dots on the socks and dress and the hearts in the print and the bag, we had our two themes. April tried on a few pieces and settled on two rings, a bracelet, and a necklace that matched the themes perfectly!

April had brought some shoes with her, but since we were only filming, we could get away with her wearing a pair of mine! While they were too large, they matched the heart bag especially well.

Final Thoughts?

In review, April explained the clothing was comfortable to wear! The only trouble she had was with the corset lacing, side zipper, and waist ties, and who doesn't have issues with those? As seen in the video, April said that she'd be happy to model or wear the style in the future! You may see a new Lolita in my social media posts from outings and conventions in the near future ;)

I want to give a huge thank-you to April for this incredibly fun experience!
Do you have a friend you want to dress in lolita fashion? I'd love to know!

Stay Frilly~
