Hello, Winter! How I Stay Warm in Lolita

As the winter storm rages outside, I’m inside organizing my lolita closet. Living in the northeast, I’m used to cold weather and plenty of snow. I wear my frills year-round, but thankfully I have 5+ easy ways to keep myself toasty in winter weather!

1. Winter Coats/Jackets

Now that I own winter jackets, I can’t imagine my life without them! While you can absolutely wear lolita in the cold without it, I enjoy having a piece that is cute and functional. Not only can you stay warm, but your dress also stays nice and dry. Both name brands and indie brands release lolita coats, and you can find them in the secondhand market as well! In addition to long winter coats, there are short coats, capes, and capelets. You’ll be sure to find one that fits your style!

2. Layers

Layers are a wonderful way to stay warm. The best part is that you can remove items at any time! Once colder weather begins, I start wearing my heavier boleros, sweaters, sweatshirts. No matter what the meet, layers help me stay comfortable in a warm or cool setting. I love the additional level of cuteness they provide, too!

3. Scarves

Who doesn’t love a scarf? As a Sweet Lolita especially, there are so many cute scarf options! From fluffy mascots, animal ears, bows with pearls, or fluffy collar designs, you can stay cozy and stylish with this simple accessory.

4. Gloves/Mittens

Your fingers will thank you for wearing gloves in the cold! Winter gloves are a bit tricky to find, but with the name brands, indie brands, and secondhand stores, they do exist. Even a knitted pair with imitation fur, leather, or fully imitation fur mittens pairs well with our style. Having trouble finding a pair? Take a pair of normal basic gloves and a pair of wristcuffs, layer them together with the wrist cuffs covering the base of your gloves and, tada!

5. Earmuffs and Hats

On average, people lose 10% of their body heat through their head. A hat is a great way to keep your hair dry and yourself warm. Wigs can help keep your heat in, too! If you want something lighter, earmuffs are a comfortable, cute, and great way to keep your ears from freezing.

6. Tights and Bloomers

When the weather gets cold, there is no better time to break out your fleece-lined tights and bloomers! The soft fleece helps keep your lower core and legs warm.

7. Boots and Leg Warmers

Boots can keep your feet dry and warm! With the numerous designs by name brands and indie designers, you are bound to find the perfect pair. Leg warmers can be worn over your tights, socks, boots, and shoes for extra warmth!

How do you stay warm when wearing lolita in the cold? I’d love to read your answers!

Stay Frilly~
