Let Go: Tips on How to Break Up with Unused Items in Your Closet

There comes a time in a Lolita's life when an item, or several, sit unused in the closet. Perhaps it is a piece that no longer fits your style or a piece that no longer hangs on you properly. Nevertheless, the clothing item or accessory needs to find another home. Some items are easier to pass along than others, but you may find you experience nostalgia about this piece that grips you at random times.

No problem! Here are my tips on how to break up with unused items in your lolita closet.

It is Worth Keeping?

Before you even consider getting rid of the article or accessory in question, think about the reasons why you would like to remove this item from your wardrobe. Is it an unflattering cut? Is the item to large or small? Does it not fit into your lolita aesthetic? Are you finding it difficult to coordinate?

If there is a chance to remedy the issue, there may be no need to sell the item! You wouldn't want to rid yourself of something you love if there is a way to fix the issue. If there isn't, let's move forward.

Take or Keep Lots of Photos

Find or take photos of the piece! I always seem to have photos of the items, but few of the coordinates. Before I wash and prepare the item in question for sale, I take a few pictures of myself in a lolita coordinate with it. This is especially true if the piece means something to me! If I start to feel nostalgic, I can take out my phone and bring up the memories with ease. It works well for me!

Offer the Item to Friends

Okay, you've decided that the item needs to find another home. There is no harm asking your lolita friends or local community if anyone would like to buy it! Not only will you and your friend be able to save money on shipping, if I local lolita buys the item you can see it at meets! It's a win-win scenario.

Say Goodbye

As you package the item for its journey, take some time to admire the item! Lolita clothes and accessories are absolutely beautiful. This art piece will make it into someone else's wardrobe, but there is no harm in taking in the stunning details. Package the item well, but with good presentation!

Find Something New

Once you have your funds from your sale, spoil yourself a bit! It isn't every day we get some extra cash to fund this hobby. Is there something you have wanted for a while that you can now purchase? Do you have a lolita essential that needs to be replaced? Is there an item similar to the one you sold, but a better fit for your wardrobe? Go for it!

Browse through Lace Market, Facebook groups, resale shops, and brand stores for your desired items. Buy or bid on something now or save up for something special and unexpected later. Someone else's retired, or newly designed item may end up being your next dream piece!

There you have it! What are your tips for getting rid of your unused items? I'd love to read them!

Stay Frilly~
