Chores and Lolita Fashion; 5 Tips on How to Keep House in Frills

As a Lolita with a full schedule, it is difficult to find the time to do much of anything! My week seems to fly by when it comes to any free time. Due to my full schedule, it is often a challenge to fit in fun hobbies like Lolita, and necessities such as weekly household chores. Sometimes, in order to accomplish both, I do some light housework tasks and cleaning while in Lolita fashion. For those of us who find themselves in a similar situation, here are my tips on how to keep house while in frills!

Indoor Chores

Includes such tasks such as: doing laundry, washing dishes, getting rid of clutter, sweeping, vacuuming, and dusting.

Outdoor Chores

Includes such tasks as: running errands, grocery shopping, putting out recycling, and shoveling snow.

1.Wear Comfortable Footwear

While tall heels or platform style shoes look great with a Lolita coordinate, they are not particularly suited for this type of affair. For any outdoor chores, I suggest a comfortable flat or low-heeled set of shoes. The recommended flatware may consist of a pair of tea party shoes, boots, Mary Jane's or another similar type. The comfort is important if you will be moving around for any length of time.

For indoor chores, it really depends on the activity and how long you will be a participant. If you have a favorite pair of shoes that match your coordinate and you have a short window of cleaning time, feel free to wear whichever pair that you like! Whether it is dishes or dusting, a short chore will not take a toll on your feet. If your to-do list is rather large, I recommend a comfortable flat shoe, such as a tea party or a Mary Jane. My favorite pair of footwear to wear indoors with Lolita while attending to chores are house slippers! I have a white pair that features a simple bow on the side. House slippers are cute and easy to wear! Additionally, since I live on the top floor of our apartment complex, the slippers help to minimize any noise my neighbors may experience while I clean.

2. Use a small Petticoat

I love a grand monster petticoat poof for a show-stopping coord, but this volume makes cleaning a challenge. A daily petticoat is a better fit for household chores. Less volume means fewer accidents! Obstacles are much easier to avoid and you can minimize knocking against unseen items. With a smaller poof, it is also much easier to squeeze into smaller spaces if needed. Alternatively, if you have a dress or a skirt with a built-in petticoat, that would be a great choice! Take advantage of it.

3. Wear an Apron

An apron, on top of being an adorable addition to your coordinate, an apron helps to protect your Lolita clothes from any unwanted contact with a number of things, such as spills and potential stains.

4. Say No to Burando

While there are household chores that you can do while dressed in a Lolita name brand item, it isn't worth the risk. When I clean, I wear items that are composed of a material that can be easily treated. These clothing items can also easily replaced if something completely unsuspected happens.

5. Wear a Simple Hairstyle

I like to wear a simple short wig style when I clean, such as a bob. Not only does the wig hair primarily stay in place, but there aren't any additional pieces with a bob. Usually, I wear a lot of wigs with pigtail clips. A short or medium wig style allows for fewer layers also, so your head does overheat while you cater to your to-do list. Your natural hair is also a great option! After all, a wig is just an additional layer you have to wear.

Do your ever do chores in Lolita fashion? Do you have any tips of your own? I would love to hear them. This blog post may be a tad silly, but it was a lot of fun to do! I hope that you enjoyed it.

Stay Frilly~
